The word "Futura" means the future of Islam. The Islamic perspective is "how-view" oriented to Islam's values, which is the methodological foundation for the entire discipline of Islamic sciences. Historically, the Islamic perspective has colored the Islamic community's intellectual life, as reflected in scientists' and thinkers' views in the classical period. The perspective has evolved in Islamic discourses and will be expanded continuously to the present and the future. The historicity of the development is a necessity along with the Islamic community's intellectual demands in real life that increases dynamically. The online version of this journal was first published in 2016. The first address of the online version of JIIF was www.islamfutura.org. However, since UIN Ar-Raniry had a new policy to unite all journals under one roof, JIIF changed the online version address to http://jurnal.ar-raniry.ac.id/index.php/islamfutura started from August 2016.

Jurnal Ilmiah Islam Futura also has become a CrossRef Member since the year 2016. Therefore, all articles published by Jurnal Ilmiah Islam Futura will have unique DOI numbers. Jurnal Ilmiah Islam Futura is currently indexed and/or included by DOAJ, Sinta, Moraref, Crossref, Index Copernicus, Google Scholar, BASE, etc.

In 2017 Jurnal Ilmiah Islam Futura was accredited by the Decree of the General Director of Strengthening Research and Development, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number 30/E/KPT/2018. In the Islamic tenet, as the foundation of the Islamic law, harmony in society is one of the purposes of implementing sharia. Yet, upon the implementation of sharia in Aceh, several cases of violation interfered with the unity of people with different beliefs in Aceh. This study examined the issue of the scorching church in Singkil to portray intolerance from various perspectives. A qualitative approach utilizing an ethnographic study is implemented with observation and interviews of 25 respondents selected by purposive sampling. The result indicated that misunderstanding led by unharmonious communication and political influence triggered the religious-based conflict in Singkil. Mutual understanding through dialogue and rejuvenating local culture and wisdom are ways to build and maintain harmony among people with different beliefs upon implementing sharia in Aceh.
Aceh has authoritative legal privilege as it has a special autonomy in implementing sharia as the legal law.
ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON POVERTY IN BANDUNG-INDONESIA: SOCIOLOGY-RELIGION-ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE CONCEPT APPROACH

This article aims to analyze in depth the impact of Covid-19 on conditions of spiritual poverty, especially indicators of aqidah associated with material poverty conditions, especially socio-cultural indicators in urban areas of Indonesia, namely Bandung City based on the theory of the sociology of religion. Bandung City is the capital city of West Java Province where West Java itself is one of the provinces with the largest contributor to poverty in Indonesia. Based on the existing literature, poverty is an obstacle to development. The question is, what are the conditions of poverty, both spiritual poverty (aqidah) and material poverty conditions (social-cultural) in the city of Bandung? Does Covid-19 have an impact on these two conditions of poverty? If yes, What are the impacts due to Covid-19? To answer this question, the methodology used is a mix method using a different test and the study sample taken is 100 poor households in the city of Bandung spread over 30 sub-districts. The results of the study show that there is an impact of Covid-19 on aspects of aqidah poverty and social material poverty aspects.

THE COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE OF RELIGIOUS BELIEF FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF SAM HARRIS: A CRITIQUE

This research aims to criticize the perspective of Sam Harris on which he built his philosophical and intellectual framework in his cognitive neuroscience-based interpretation of multiple philosophical concepts such as belief, disbelief, morality, and free will in his base research paper titled (Functional Neuroimaging of Belief, Disbelief, and Uncertainty). This research relied on description, analysis, and criticism. It describes Sam Harris’s core thoughts in his study on neuroimaging, and then analyzes them and states their purposes and implications. Then it criticizes his ideas, relying on two elements. First, the logical and philosophical and Kalam argumentations to criticize his ideas and to explain the flaws in his knowledge foundations. Second, relying on the neuroscientists’ views contradicting the theses in Harris’ paper besides general scientific criticism. The research concluded that consciousness precedes matter and not the opposite, and that belief is innate in the human mind from birth and is one of the so-called necessary-knowledge that cannot be refuted by material experiences. Thus, faith is an innate awareness and not a purely materialistic cognitive state that can be reduced, or abstracted, and its level cannot be measured by simply conducting tests through belief, disbelief, or uncertainty about written prepositions.

MUDA WALY AL-KHALIDI (1917-1961): PESANTREN, TARIQAH, AND POLITICS OF RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY IN ACEH

This study explores the life and contributions of Muda Waly al-Khalidi (1917–1961), a prominent Acehnese ulama who played a crucial role in shaping Islamic education, Sufi practices, and ulama politics of religious authority in Aceh. Muda Waly was instrumental in advancing the Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah (Aswaja) theological tradition and propagating the Naqshbandiyya Khalidiyya tariqa.Naqshbandiyah Khalidiyah tariqa. He founded the Darussalam Islamic boarding school (pesantren) in Labuhanhaji, which became a significant center for Islamic learning in Aceh. His efforts also extended into politics through his involvement with Persatuan Tarbiyah Islamiyah (PERTI), a traditionalist Islamic organization countering modernist influences. Using Foucault’s genealogy approach, this study examines the intellectual and religious formation of Muda Waly, tracing his educational lineage in Sumatra and Mecca, his engagement in theological debates, and his role in shaping Aceh’s religious landscape. I argue that the legacy of Muda Waly al-Khalidi represents an intricate process of knowledge formation and power relations in Aceh’s religious landscape. His establishment of pesantren, propagation of the Naqshbandiyya Khalidiyya Sufi order, and resistance to modernist movements illustrate the genealogical development of religious authority. His contributions demonstrate how religious authoritytraditions are continuously reshaped through negotiation, appropriation, and resistance. Future studies could further explore how his epistemic legacy continues to evolve in response to emerging theological and political contestations in Indonesia.

THE RESPONSE OF MUSLIM YOUTH IN BANDA ACEH TOWARD ISLAMIC CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN INDONESIA

The study delves into the response of the younger generation of Muslims in Banda Aceh to contemporary issues in Indonesia. It aims to investigate their perspectives on religious tolerance and their attitudes towards socio-political issues in Indonesia. The author employed in-depth interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to gain insights into the mindset of the young Muslim populace in Banda Aceh. The study unearthed a notable shift in the acquisition of religious knowledge, primarily through digital mediums, leading to a diminished association of violence and extremism with religious discord. The young Muslims of Banda Aceh exhibit a substantial inclination towards tolerance and nationalism. However, they hold firm in their unwillingness to compromise when tolerance undermines their religious convictions. Furthermore, they assert that national issues intertwined with Islam do not sway their overarching outlook on the nation and state.

TEACHERS’ PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND REINFORCEMENT AT INTEGRATED ISLAMIC SCHOOLS IN INDONESIA

The development of Integrated Islamic Primary Schools is in response to the society’s increasing demand for quality graduates. Thus, the emphasis on the effectiveness of learning in Integrated Islamic Primary Schools (IIPS) necessitates institutional innovation and teacher professionalism. This research investigates the professionalism in IIPS and determines the factors that contribute to teachers' professional practices. The study is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. This study employed the “Tarbiyah learning framework” developed by Abdurahman Al-Nahlawi, and the data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations to investigate the dimensions of teacher professionalism, teaching methodologies, and factors affecting teacher professionalism. The findings reveal that there is a mismatch between professional development initiatives and the actual conditions faced by students. Teaching-learning process that is responsive to students needs and characteristics, collaborative learning programs and supervision sctivities are all viable strategies. Teacher professionalism can be identified by demonstrating strong commitment and work discipline. The IIPS also provides structured training programs and collaborative partnerships with the education office to improve relevant teaching competencies and methodologies. Further, the social implications of this research include the availability of high-quality educational options for the community at the primary school level. Furthermore, the varied management system of IIPS serves as a social control to ensure the quality of primary education continues to develop.

COMMUNICATIVE FUNCTIONS USED IN POPE’S 2021 SPEECH IN IRAQ: A CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF RELIGIOUS PLURALISM

The ongoing state of religious diversity leads to the need of adhering interfaith dialogue as a means for achieving religious pluralism that encourages and promotes respect and acceptance of freedom of religion. Pope Francis’s (2021) speech delivered in the historical City of Ur, Iraq is a call for such pluralism. In this study, it is hypothesised that Pope has focused on the communicative functions that enhance religious diversity acceptance. The study aims at finding out the communicative functions employed in Pope’s speech. In order to achieve this aim, Gerard Genette’s theory of narratology (1980) is adopted. Based on the findings of the analysis, it is concluded that various communicative functions are utilized: narrative, directing, communication, and ideological. Mostly used one is the communication function which is critical in transmitting the fundamental message of unity, peace, and brotherhood. This function is critical for engaging the audience and instilling a sense of shared responsibility for promoting tolerance and peace among religious communities. Consequently, the conclusions arrived at affirm the put hypotheses.

WOMEN AND MUSLIM EDUCATION IN WEST SUMATRA, INDONESIA

Minangkabau was known for its dominant Islamic education history especially in modern times since the beginning of the twentieth century as a number of so-called madrasah or Islamic educational reforms have been credited to several prominent figures in the region. This region also has a significant history and tradition of matriarchal and matrilineal kinship that relate to women’s position, and their contributions in the public affairs, including in the field of education. Several prominent women from the region have been named as founders of several schools for women, or journalists that campaign for women’s education. This study examines the socio-historical aspects of women and education and the women’s educational movement initiatives from the cases of few female figures such as Rahmah el-Yunusiyyah and others. From a historical perspective and qualitative library research data, this study shows the presence of local female figures in the field of education alongside their male counterparts amidst the kaum muda and kaum tua socio-religious contestation. The socio-local traditions influenced women’s presence and contribution to the public sphere, and those women not only established schools for women but also advocated women’s rights, including their rights for education through journalism and politics.

SHARIA INTERNAL RESOURCES: CAPABILITIES TO DRIVE THE SUSTAINABILITY OF ISLAMIC BANKING

Having the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia presents a potential market for the development of Islamic banking, especially considering that the market share of Islamic banking is currently less than 10%. The unique characteristics of Islamic banking, which distinguish it from conventional banking, suggest the possibility of having extraordinary internal resource capabilities. This study aims to explore internal resources within the context of Islamic banking, a sector with considerable potential for growth in the financial industry. This study uses an exploratory approach with focus group discussion and exploratory factor analysis to develop and identify the dimensions of Sharia Internal Resources. The results are first-order factors generated by grouping items into four dimensions. Each formed dimension corresponds to Islamic elements that refer to activities and operational processes based on Islamic law. Furthermore, the second-order analysis found that the formed, first-order factors can be integrated into a more comprehensive construct: Sharia Internal Resources. These findings enrich general knowledge by providing insight into the internal resources that are essential and unique for the sustainability of the Islamic banking sector, particularly when facing competition dominated by conventional banking.

DISLOCATION OF ISLAMIC SCIENTIFIC TRADITION THROUGH DIGITAL PUBLIC SPHERE: NETNOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS ON THE DISCOURSE OF AHL AL-SUNNAH WA AL-JAMA’A BETWEEN TRADITIONALIST AND MODERNIST MUSLIMS

On how digital public sphere distort traditional Islamic public sphere, many scholars are convinced that media's work is inextricably linked with producing false consciousness, in which its audiences' opinions are stirred and engineered for Ideological entrenchment. It is a consensus among scholars that media has the effectivity for the propaganda tools, while significant current media theories concern the role of media in favour of the power interest through the mechanism of algorigma; e.g., Echo chambers and filter bubbles. Based on netnographic data on Aswaja discourse, this paper attempts to unearth the dislocation of Islamic scientific tradition through digital public sphere. This paper argues that digital public sphere has played a significant role in disrupted the traditional Islamic scholarly tradition by instrumentalizing religious discourse to maintain hegemony over minority groups. This paper has an important contribution to understanding the mode of piety and religious practices used for cultural hegemony and the ways media plays its role in constructing and remaking the meaning of religious concepts and piety.

DESIGNING A GENDER-RESPONSIVE QIRA’AH‎ LEARNING MODULE: ‎BRIDGING EQUALITY AND INCLUSIVITY IN ISLAMIC ‎HIGHER EDUCATION

The lack of gender-responsive learning materials causes biased understanding and does not support the principle of gender equality in Islam. Therefore, developing a gender-responsive qira’ah learning module aligned with gender equality principles represents an innovative approach to curriculum development. This research aims to design and test a gender-responsive qira’ah ‎ learning module for Islamic higher education using the research and development method and the ADDIE model, representing an innovative effort in curriculum development. The research results indicate that this gender-responsive qira’ah ‎ learning module significantly enhances students understanding of gender equality in the context of Islam. This is evidenced by an increase in the average score from 47,5 on the pre-test to 82 on the post-test, a gain of 34,5 points with a t-test yielding a p-value of 0.00, confirming that the improvement is statistically significant. The design of the module that integrates gender equality values, examples of the use of inclusive, non-stereotypical language, encouraging active student participation has created an inclusive learning environment. This is one aspect of the novelty of the results of this research. This module is expected to be a model for developing a qira’ah‎ curriculum that is more relevant and responsive to gender issues.

THE ADAPTATION OF CYBER SALAFISM DAʿWAH IN HADĪTH AḤKĀM LITERATURE: ANALYZING ʿUMDAT AL-AḤKĀM SERMONS ON THE YUFID CHANNEL

This article examines how Salafism adjusts conservative literature with its preaching on YouTube. Over the last decade, Salafism has gained significant traction in Indonesian cyberspace and urban centers. Moreover, the impact of expanding preaching through social media platforms, such as Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, has proven successful in increasing their popularity in urban areas. Therefore, uncovering the modification of conservative law literature in cyber-Salafism is significant because it not only captures the method of Salafism in online preaching but also reveals how Islamic classical books are adapted for online media. The object of this study is 240 Yufid videos discussing ʿUmdat al-Aḥkām. Therefore, this study employs an online ethnographic method in order to collect, classify, and analyze the data. Moreover, it is also applied to defining the setting of the research, feeding insight to the studied community, and presenting the results with ethical awareness. This study revealed that Yufid’s interpretation of ʿUmdat al-Aḥkām tends to be textual and seems indifferent to the social conditions of the surrounding community. Moreover, it also uncovered how ʿUmdat al-Aḥkām sermons manifest the business purpose of Yufid rather than theological demand. Through this research, we suggest that the government or scholars can monitor online preaching on YouTube channels as an extension of real movements.
